7 must-watch series on Netflix

Autumn has been here for quite a while now and winter is well on its way, so it’s the perfect time to cuddle up on the couch with a blanket, a cup of tea and Netflix. But sometimes, you spend so much time deciding what to watch on Netflix that you don’t have time anymore to actually watch it! So to help you a little bit, here are 7 of my favourite series on Netflix that are perfect to binge on those cold fall and winter nights.

The Good Place

The Good Place has quickly become one of my favourite shows ever. It’s about Eleanor Shellstrop, who ends up in The Good Place after her death, because she has done so many good things in her life. The only problem? They must have confused her with another Eleanor Shellstrop, because this Eleanor was a very selfish person who has never done anything good in her life. What I really like about this show is how it incorporates philosophy and asks philosophical questions without ever trying to be pretentious. In the end, it’s still a comedy with great, hilarious characters and a fun storyline.

Orphan Black

Orphan Black is a sci-fi/thriller that I would recommend even to people who are not that into sci-fi. It has a very strong cast, an amazing storyline with very few loose ends and very few filler episodes. I can’t tell too much about the premise of the show because it would give quite a few spoilers, but I would recommend everyone to at least watch the first episode. I personally was drawn into the series the first couple of minutes and have loved it ever since.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

This is another comedy series that I love a lot. Unfortunately the latest season isn’t on Netflix yet (at least not where I live) but I’ve watched all the other episodes in just a couple of weeks. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a show about the 99th police district in Brooklyn, and features some amazing characters. There’s honestly nothing I don’t like about this show, and it’s perfect to watch if you need some cheering up on those dark winter days.

There are many films and series about Sherlock Holmes, and all portray him a little differently. Although I’ve read some of the original stories, the only film adaptation I’ve seen is BBC Sherlock, and I still love this one! Most of the episodes are loosely based on the original stories, but they’re all set in the present day. The series consists of 4 seasons with 3 90-minute episodes each, so it’s perfect if you want to watch something longer but don’t feel like watching a movie.

Jane The Virgin

Jane the Virgin is a gem. It’s based on the Venezuelan telenovela “Juana la Virgin”, but never takes itself seriously and constantly makes fun of the fact that it’s a telenovela. The show is about Jane Villanueva, a young catholic woman who wants to save sex for marriage… but then gets pregnant anyway because she accidentally gets artificially inseminated when her doctor mixes her up with someone else. Of course this results in a whole soap opera of events, told by a very sarcastic all-knowing narrator who might just be the best part of this show.

The Fall

The Fall is obviously a very fitting title to watch in the fall – but it’s also a very dark, serious show. It follows serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) and the attempts of detective Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) to catch him and build a case against him. A psychological thriller like The Fall is maybe not the greatest to binge, but with only 17 episodes total it still won’t take too long to watch all of it. And if you’re into series like this, it’s definitely a must-watch.

Stranger Things

If you’re into sci-fi and horror, you’ve probably already seen Stranger Things. But if you haven’t yet, here is a reminder that you should. I’m personally not that into horror, but I can handle Stranger Things just fine. The series is set in the eighties, and starts with the disappearance of Will Byers. Meanwhile, a girl escapes from a nearby laboratory from the US Department of Energy – who are doing experiments that have created a portal into an alternate dimension. Season 3 is supposed to start mid-2019, and I can’t wait!

Have you watched these series and what did you think of them? What shows do you think are a must-watch on Netflix? Let me know in the comments!

They are honestly so well-written and have the best characters. I’ll have to give the others a shot! I’m always on the lookout for a new show to binge. So happy Brooklyn 99 got picked up by NBC! Still can’t believe FOX cancelled it in the way they did.

I can’t wait for the new season of Jane the Virgin after last season’s finale. Although, a little bummed that the next season is the last one.

My current favorite Netflix original series is The Haunting of Hill House. So good, definite recommend, for sure!
