HEMA is a Dutch warehouse chain with stores all over Europe, that sells affordable houseware, clothes, stationary, food, and beauty products. A few months ago I reviewed some of their haircare products; in this post I will review some of their skincare products. I tried out a full skincare routine, consisting of their Let’s Glow line (except for the serum), a cleansing cream and acne patches. All of these products are vegan.
Een paar maanden geleden reviewde ik een aantal haarverzorgingsproducten van de HEMA. In deze post review ik een aantal van hun gezichtsverzorgingsproducten. Ik heb een volledige skincare routine geprobeerd, bestaande uit de Let’s Glow lijn (behalve het serum), een reinigingscrème en acne patches. Al deze producten zijn veganistisch.
Hydrating Cleansing Sorbet Cream
I was really interested in trying this cleansing cream, as I hoped it would be a bit like a cleansing balm and these aren’t available in many drugstores. However, it is not like a cleansing balm at all. The consistency looks a bit grainy, like expired whipped cream. That doesn’t sound too good, but to be fair, it does not feel grainy at all and feels pretty nice on the face. It says it melts away make-up, and it does remove my bb-cream just fine. Unfortunately, you need to avoid the eye area, so you need a separate eye make-up remover. I also find it to be a bit hard to rinse off, even with warm water.
Ik was erg benieuwd naar deze reinigingscrème, omdat ik hoopte dat hij een beetje op een cleansing balm zou lijken en deze niet vaak te vinden zijn bij de drogist. De crème lijkt echter totaal niet op een cleansing balm. De consistentie is een beetje korrelig, net als slagroom die over de datum is. Dat klinkt niet zo goed, maar gelukkig voelt de crème totaal niet korrelig aan en voel het juist wel fijn op mijn gezicht. Er staat dat de crème make-up wegsmelt, en hij verwijdert mijn bb-cream goed. Helaas moet je de ogen ontwijken, dus heb je nog wel een aparte oogmake-up remover nodig. Ook vind ik de crème lastig om af te spoelen, zelfs met warm water.
Let’s Glow Moisturiser
The Let’s Glow Moisturiser is a lightly tinted moisturiser with açai berry extract and centella asiatica extract. This second ingredient is used a lot in Asian skincare products, and is great for sensitive skin. The moisturiser also contains glycerin and aloe vera, so overall it has very hydrating ingredients.
De Let’s Glow Moisturiser is een lichtgetinte moisturiser met açaibessenextract en centella asiatica extract. Dit tweede ingrediënt wordt veel gebruikt in Aziatische gezichtsverzorgingsproducten, en is goed voor de gevoelige huid. De moisturiser bevat daarnaast glycerine en aloe vera, dus hij heeft behoorlijk hydraterende ingrediënten.
When I saw the color of the moisturizer, I was afraid it would be too dark for me – but it does adjust to your skin color like the packaging says. It feels really lightweight and hydrating, and while it doesn’t really give any coverage, it does give a bit of a glow. I feel like this moisturiser is perfect for the summer when you don’t really want to wear any make-up under your sunscreen.
Toen ik de kleur van de moisturiser zag, was ik bang dat deze te donker voor me zou zijn – maar hij past zich aan je huidskleur aan zoals de verpakking zegt. Hij voelt heel licht en hydraterend aan, en hoewel hij niet echt dekking geeft, geeft hij wel een lichte ‘glow’. Ik denk dat deze moisturiser perfect is tijdens de zomer, wanneer je niet echt zin hebt om make-up onder je zonnebrandcrème te dragen.
Let’s Glow Tonic
The Let’s Glow Tonic is a nice hydrating toner with glycerin, aloe vera, açai berry extract and 5% niacinamide. Niacinamide or vitamin B3 can help with evening out the skin tone, reducing the appearance of large pores and strengthening the skin barrier, and is usually well tolerated by all skin types. The toner is also alcohol-free, which can be hard to find at drugstore prices. Overall, I’m really impressed by this toner! The only downside is that it says to avoid the eye area.
De Let’s Glow tonic is een fijne hydraterende toner met glycerine, aloe vera, açaibessenextract en 5% niacinamide. Niacinamide of vitamine B3 kan helpen om de huid te egaliseren, de zichtbaarheid van grote poriën te verminderen en de huidbarrière te verstevigingen, en wordt meestal goed getolereerd door alle huidtypes. De toner is daarnaast alcohol-vrij, wat soms moeilijk te vinden kan zijn voor een betaalbare prijs. Al met al ben ik best wel onder de indruk van deze toner! Het enige nadeel is dat ook hier de huid rond de ogen ontweken moet worden.
Let’s Glow Overnight Glow
The Overnight Glow is a night cream that says it works like a mask. Because of this I expected it to be quite heavy, but in fact, it is just a nice lightweight, hydrating night cream. Like the moisturiser, it also contains centella asiatica extract, açai berry extract and aloe vera. However, these are a little lower in the ingredient list here. It also contains apricot kernel oil and shea butter, and these are a lot higher up. Again, it says to avoid the eye area, so that seems to be a common theme with these products. Other than that, I really enjoy this night cream.
De Overnight Glow is een nachtcrème die zou moeten werken zoals een masker. Hierdoor verwachtte ik dat de crème vrij zwaar zou zijn, maar het blijkt een fijne, lichte, hydraterende nachtcrème te zijn. Net als de moisturiser bevat deze crème centella asiatica extract, açaibessenextract en aloe vera. Deze staan echter een stuk lager in de ingrediëntenlijst. Hij bevat ook abrikozenpitolie en karitéboter, en die staan een stuk hoger. Ook bij deze crème moet je het gebied rond de ogen ontwijken, dus dat lijkt een terugkerend thema te zijn met deze producten. Verder vind ik het echter een heel fijne crème.

I’ve been really interested in trying acne patches for a while, so when I saw that HEMA sold them, I just had to add them to this review. The active ingredients in these patches are salicylic acid and tea tree oil. Salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliant, which is able to get deeper inside the pores and unclog them. Tea tree oil is also often used in acne products for its antibacterial properties.
Ik wilde al een tijdje een keer acne patches proberen, dus toen ik zag dat de HEMA ze verkocht, besloot ik dat ik ze wel toe moest voegen aan deze review. De actieve ingrediënten in deze patches zijn salicylzuur en tea tree olie. Salicylzuur is een chemische exfoliant, die dieper in de poriën kan komen om opgehoopt talg op te lossen. Tea tree olie wordt ook vaak gebruikt in acne producten vanwege de antibacteriële eigenschappen.
The package contains two individual packages with strips of twelve patches, one of which is pictured above. There are two different patch sizes, for smaller and larger pimples. They are transparent, so if you don’t know they are there you can barely see them. However, the package says to not put make-up on top of them, so most people will want to use them at night. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like they do much for my pimples. But if you are like me and pick your pimples way more often than you’d like to admit, these could be great to avoid picking at them.
De verpakking bevat twee individuele verpakkingen met strips van twaalf patches, waarvan eentje hierboven te zien is. Er zijn twee verschillende groottes van de patches, voor kleinere en grotere pukkels. Ze zijn transparant, dus als je niet weet dat ze er zitten, kun je ze nauwelijks zien. De verpakking zegt echter dat je geen make-up eroverheen aan moet brengen, dus de meeste mensen zullen ze ’s nachts willen gebruiken. Helaas heb ik het gevoel dat ze niet zoveel doen voor mijn pukkels. Maar als je op mij lijkt en veel vaker aan je pukkels zit dan je zou willen toegeven, kunnen deze patches handig zijn om te voorkomen dat je eraan zit.
Conclusion
I am really impressed by these products! I like that they are all vegan and alcohol-free. They are not fragrance-free, but they all have a nice smell that is not too strong. I would like them more if I could use them all on my eye area, but overall, these products have some really good ingredients at an affordable price of €5 or less.
Ik ben erg onder de indruk van deze producten! Ik vind het fijn dat ze veganistisch zijn en alcohol-vrij. Ze zijn niet parfum-vrij, maar ze hebben allemaal een lekkere geur die niet te sterk is. Ik zou de producten fijner vinden als ik ze allemaal wel rond de ogen kon gebruiken, maar al met al hebben deze producten een aantal heel goede ingrediënten voor een betaalbare prijs van €5 of minder.
